Smoke & Dope is a ballistics and load data tool for Black Powder Cartridge Rifle shooters. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data the app uses and why.
Smoke & Dope requests access to your device location solely to fetch local weather conditions and display radar for your area. Location data is never stored, shared, or transmitted to our servers.
Smoke & Dope requests access to your camera solely to display the live ballistics HUD — a real-time overlay showing firing solution data while viewing the range. No photos or video are captured, recorded, or stored at any time.
When you use the AI field analysis feature, relevant session data (range conditions, weather, and load information you have entered) is sent to Anthropic's Claude API to generate a response. This data is subject to Anthropic's privacy policy at anthropic.com. No personally identifiable information is included in these requests.
Your first several AI analyses each month are provided free of charge. To make this possible, these requests are routed through our secure backend (hosted on Google Firebase) rather than sent directly from your device. To administer this free monthly allowance, the app signs in anonymously and we store a randomly generated, anonymous identifier together with a count of analyses used that month. This identifier is not linked to your name, email, or any personal information, and is not used to track you across other apps or services. If you choose to add your own Anthropic API key, analyses are sent directly from your device to Anthropic and do not pass through our backend.
All rifle, load, and session data you enter is stored locally on your device. We do not collect user accounts or sell your data. The only information our backend stores is the anonymous usage counter described above, used solely to administer the free AI analysis allowance.
